Colchester Zoo has some of the best cat and primate collections in Europe. There are a number of distinct areas throughout the zoo that take visitors to the four corners of the world. Visitors to Colchester have the opportunity to see the animals up close; experience a White Tiger eye to eye in White Tiger Valley or get closer to Chimpanzees at Chimp World, see the Humboldts penguins in Penguin Shores or marvel at the rare Colobus and Black Mangabey Monkeys in Out of Africa.

Colchester Zoo's Action for the Wild Programme is dedicated to helping the work of many responsible organsiations that endeavour to take on the difficult task of conserving animals in the wild.

The programme has also supported particular funds that exist to preserve individual species such as The Lion Tamarins of Brazil Fund, Save the Rhino, 21st Century Tiger and many more.

There are a number of animals on show at the zoo include:

• Asian Primates such as Western Ghats and Lion Tailed Macaques
• Black Bears
• Red Pandas
• Asian Fishing Cats
• Orang-utans
• Ocelots (a small cat from South America)
• Maned Wolves (a small wolf resembling a red fox)

The Zoo is open daily from 9:30 and closes at dusk in winter season (closed 25 december)
