Woburn Safari Park

oburn Safari Park, part of the Bedford Estates, is one hour north of London just five minutes from junction 13 of the M1 motorway.

The award winning park was opened in 1970 and attracts in excess of 300,000 visitors each year. 350 acres in size sitting within the world famous 3000 acre Woburn Deer Park. This area probably represents the biggest single acreage devoted to exotic species in western Europe. It was from the Deer Park that the world’s first successful reintroduction of a species saved from extinction through a captive breeding programme took place in 1985 when Pere David Deer were returned successfully to the wild in China.

The Safari Park comprises a 7 Km drive through series of exhibits where large groups of mixed species can be seen in near natural surroundings. These include Eland, Lechwe, Sitatunga, Gemsbok, Addax antelope, Southern White Rhino, various species of Zebra, Rothschild giraffe, the largest pride of Lions in the UK, Grass and Colobus monkeys, Amur Tigers, Asian Elephants, North American Timber wolves and Black Bear and many more. As well as seeing these animals interacting with each other as they would in the wild visitors can be stunned by being literally just a windscreens width away from such magnificent animals.

Recognising that children need to burn off steam Woburn has one of the most extensive ranges of indoor and outdoor play grounds for all ages as well as boating lake, railway and other family activities. In the wild young animals learn the skills they need for adulthood through play and social interaction, we carry this theme through into the activities in the Park. Our philosphy also in our time poor society is to create a special environment where families can play and interact. Staff will encourage accompanying adults to let their hair down and get back to basics with the children by enjoying the facilities as much as they do. The infrastructure includes a gift shop, Les Routiers accredited catering and facilities for the disabled.
