Dealing with the problems of Foot and Mouth

Woburn Abbey and Woburn Safari Park - Precautionary Closure as a measure against the spread of Foot and Mouth disease.

Woburn Abbey, Deer Park and Woburn Safari Park will be closed to the public this weekend, February 24th & 25th. This is to reduce the risk of the foot and mouth virus being brought onto the 3,000 acre estate, following the recent outbreaks in Essex and Northumberland, the first in this country for 30 years. The situation will be reviewed before the Park and Abbey are next due to open on March 3rd and 4th.

The public road which runs through the Estate, the C100 will be closed from 6 pm on Friday 23rd February as the Council recognises the importance of protecting the many irreplaceable, rare and endangered species at Woburn.

On the advice of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Bedford Estates are asking people not to walk across the Estate while the risk exists since the virus can be carried on footwear. The Estate appreciates your co-operation.
