We aim to provide zoos with the materials and ideas
they require to
bring in-situ linking alive in their zoo.
Therefore we offer:
FREE Project Matching. We will find the perfect South American
project for your zoo to support from our database of over 50 projects.
- FREE Project Information. Once we've found you one or a few
potential projects we will send you free information about each, set out in
our standard "Presentation Form" format. It includes
everything you need to know about the project and was designed using criteria
laid out in the new "In-situ Conservation Handbook", aimed at
measuring conservation effectiveness.
- FREE Project Linking Service. Once you've picked which project you
would like to support, we will then introduce you to the project leaders and
assist you in the early stages of establishing reliable contacts and laying
out your conditions of support. This service will only be available at
the beginning - after initial contact has been made, a service charge will
be made to carry out any further work on your behalf.
- Resource Materials for Zoos and Schools
We are now producing a set of resource materials that will assist zoos in
making effective links with the projects we have visited. The resource packs
will consist of; natural and cultural artifacts, photos, slides, posters,
video and CD Roms. All of which zoos can use in education, PR and
fundraising, exhibit design, research and in providing sustainable retail
opportunities.
There will be a charge for these products.
- Handicrafts/
Biocomerica = Sustainable Retail Opportunities,
Helping Zoo Shops to support conservation too.
We are working with a Danish distributor to European Zoo shops to help us
find, import and promote a range of sustainably produced, traditionally
made, fair-traded handicrafts. By selling these products, zoos will be
offering their visitors the chance to support conservation, by giving the
producer communities a fair price for their work; work that protects their
environment and helps conserve the animals in it.
We are currently developing a catalogue which will be posted here when
completed - Expected completion: September 2002.
- Free "Schools linking"
assistance
Zoos, Education, Schools and Community
Our "
Schools linking programme" aims to link communities around zoos to
communities around the in-situ projects, through their local schools. It can
involve running workshops in schools, in both communities, e-mail and postal
communications and teacher exchanges. We
are also preparing artifact packs for each country we visited, to be used by
the European schools that get involved. See "Schools linking" page
for more details.
There is a charge for packs and for running workshops - however we can offer
free advice and assistance in setting up a schools linking programme in your
zoo. An initial report is included in our "ZGW Proposal"
which can be down-loaded FREE from this site.
- Zoo
Event Management - We can help organise events in your zoo aimed at
raising awareness and funds for your chosen projects.
- Eco-tours
- Zoos Go Wild can offer REAL Eco-tours to visit and support
conservation projects in South America.
